What is MBBS?

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) course is 5.5 years undergraduate degree with 4.5 years of course study and 1 year of mandatory internship in various fields of medicine.

The course is divided into 9 semesters in which one will gain an overview of various MBBS subjects like anatomy, pediatrics, biochemistry, and many other subjects during the whole course.

The syllabus, prescribed in such a way that MBBS degree holders can choose a specialization for further majoring and practicing medicine. The career specializations for MBBS students are Nephrology, Cardiology, Gynecology, Anesthesiology, Organ Transplant, Endocrine, and General Surgery, etc.

Eligibility

• Candidates must have passed Class XII/higher secondary/pre-university qualifying examination with Science subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Zoology/Botany. They also must have studied English as the main subject for their qualifying examination.
• Moreover, candidates also need to fulfil the age limit criteria i.e. they must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admissions.
• There are additional eligibility conditions as mentioned by the regulatory authorities for MBBS i.e. Medical Council of India (MCI).

MD

Doctor of Medicine, commonly known as MD, is a postgraduate degree where graduates study medicine in detail. It is a two-year course that trains medical graduates in the study, prevention, diagnosis, and the treatment of adult diseases. Someone who holds an MBBS degree can pursue MD degree to obtain training on a specialization of choice. Some of the specializations include pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrics, ophthalmology and dentistry. Graduates should know that the admission to MD course in many of the colleges is granted through the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test PG, commonly known as NEET PG. On the other hand, colleges that do not come under the ambit of the aforementioned exam have their own admission criteria. As per the Medical Council of India, there are a total of 220 medical colleges in India (both government and private) that offer around 17950 seats for MD course.

Each year, more than 67,000 students are enrolled in the course. BPT admission process is conducted in more than 1650 medical colleges across India to offer students admission into physiotherapy courses at UG and PG level. 

Application procedure to complete both online and offline modes of registration is mentioned below - 

Online Application 

• For the internet-based application, applicants are required to attend the official website of the exam conducting authority and fill in their desired options. 
• After that, a print out of the completed form is to be taken out. 
• The print out alongside the obligatory documents and DD of the required amount must be delivered to the relevant exam body.

For Offline Applications, candidates can pick up the form alongside the brochure from the exam conducting body or from the designated centres and may finish the formality.

Enrollment to the course generally depends on marks scored in the entrance test irrespective of a student’s class 12th results. However, interested candidates are required to score at least 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST) in their 10+2 graduation to be eligible for admission.

Note: There is no Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) specific All India Entrance Exam. NEET and AIIMS do not conduct tests for Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) admissions.

Usually, two additional group discussion rounds and private interviews are held for assessment of the candidate’s general aptitude for the course. Based on the numbers obtained (including GD and PI) candidates are offered seats either on the basis of university counselling (merit) or through college management.

MDS

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is characterized by progressive accumulation of phenotypically mature malignant B lymphocytes. Primary sites of disease include peripheral blood, bone marrow, spleen, and lymph nodes. Symptoms and signs may be absent or may include lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, hepatomegaly, fatigue, fevers, night sweats, unintentional weight loss, and early satiety. Diagnosis is by flow cytometry and immunophenotyping of peripheral blood. Treatment is delayed until symptoms develop and generally involves chemotherapy and immunotherapy. However, treatments are evolving, and first-line regimens may include targeted agents such as inhibitors of Bruton tyrosine kinase (Btk) and Bcl-2, with or without chemotherapy.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia is the most common type of leukemia in the Western world. The American Cancer Society estimates that in the United States in 2022 there will be 20,000 new cases of CLL and about 4400 deaths; most cases and almost all deaths will be in adults. The average age of a patient with CLL is 70 years; CLL is extremely rare in children. In the US, the average lifetime risk of CLL in both sexes is about 0.57% (1 in 175).

Although the cause of CLL is unknown, some cases appear to have a hereditary component. CLL is rare in Japan and China, and the incidence does not seem to be increased among Japanese expatriates in the United States, suggesting the importance of genetic factors. CLL is more common among Jews of Eastern European descent.

MS

Master of Science, abbreviated as MS, is an advanced level PG degree that is offered by esteemed and prestigious science & research colleges in India. 

Master of Science course is offered in two major domains: Engineering and Management, the duration of which can be between 1.5 to 3 years in a full-time mode.

The eligibility criteria for an MS degree is a minimum of 50-60% marks in the UG level, along with a valid GATE score to get admission in the MS course. Students can also apply after successfully completing their CSIR/UGC NET exam.

Ph.D. in Medicine is a 3 to 5 year full-time Doctoral program in Medicine. The eligibility criteria for the program is holding a post-graduation degree in Medicine or MS/MD degree with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks and above from a recognized university listed under UGC/AIU. The course enables candidates to get an in-depth insight into various areas of medicine strengthening their core skills in conducting research.

All the applicants are required to pass the All India Entrance Examination as well as qualify the round of Personal Interview held by the respective colleges, thereafter which the process of admission to Ph.D. in Medicine course will be furthered. In addition, candidates are also required to clear the Pre-Ph.D. course which is for a duration of 6 months and submit their research proposal before the commencement of interview process.

MD

MD Full Form is Doctor of Medicine. MD has been derived from the Latin word Medicinae Doctor. Students need to complete 5 years of MBBS course and 6 months of training in order to be eligible for the MD course. In 220 medical colleges in India, the Total no of MD Seats is 24,547. 

MD Admission Process is based on NEET-PG Exam. NEET PG Cut off Score is 275 Out of 800 for Unreserved candidates. Check: NEET PG
