Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, erstwhile Bengal Engineering College, formerly Bengal Engineering and Science University, is a public technical university located at Shibpur, Howrah, West Bengal. Founded in 1856, it is one of the oldest technical universities in India.
Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur is one of the oldest engineering institutes in India that was established in the year 1856. IIEST has recently been ranked 66 in the overall category and 40 in the engineering category by the NIRF 2022.
At present, IIEST is offering 45 courses at the UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels in the field of Engineering, Science, and Management. B.Tech is the flagship program of IIEST Shibpur, which is being offered under 9 specializations to choose from. IIEST B.Tech admissions are done through JEE Main entrance examination followed by JoSAA/CSAB counseling. The JEE Main cutoff for B.Tech at IIEST ranges between 9436 and 51420 for the general category.
IIEST Shibpur has set some good records for its placement in the past few years. Every year many top-notch companies participate in the campus placement drive to recruit students. In the placement drive of 2020, a total of 511 students got placed in 111 reputed companies and the highest salary package offered was INR 39 LPA. Microsoft, TCS, Daikin, Vedanta, Wipro, Cognizant, Godrej, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, and HSBC Technologies are some of the top recruiters associated with IIEST Shibpur.
